What is Orphanim?
Orphanim will be a game inspired by the "MLP Infection AU" trend that swept over some social media spaces in late 2024. I say "inspired," because the events of this game do not actually follow the concept of a viral sickness sweeping over the nation. This game is not about viral illnesses or any common usage of the word infection, but the monsters and story are very much inspired by the amazing creators that precede it!
I will not answer any questions about lore. Those questions will be answered by you playing the game!
Q. Will the game be free?
A. Absolutely. Early access to the game will also be given to those following this blog when the time comes. I'm making this game out of love. It will be available on Steam once I have the demo out.
Q. How long will the game be in development?
A. I really don't know! I'd like to say that the game will be out by next year, but that may be a Herculean task in itself as I want it to be a relatively large experience with secrets to uncover. The demo might be out by late 2025. Let's see how things go. I'd like to avoid Development Hell, so I'm taking my time and being kind to myself.
Q. What will gameplay be like?
A. You play as a sickly pony named Angel Eyes as you search for your missing parents. She is chronically hospitalized due to a birth defect and is very young at the time of the game. Gameplay will include puzzle solving, exploring, grotesque monsters, lore-rich side information, secrets, multiple endings, cutscenes, and a general Silent Hill-like ambience. The graphics are intentionally downscaled to hopefully a) improve performance for my low-end PC friends and b) attempt to capture that PS1-early PS2 era goodness.
Q. Can I help?
A. Absolutely yes! You can donate to me on my ko-fi or contact me with a portfolio for any game design skills you might have. This can include voice acting, coding, 3D prop/environment modeling, level design (UE5), or sound design. Keep in mind that these are short-term volunteer positions that I don't need and can't pay you for, but you will absolutely get credited. Otherwise, the creation of this game will be a private affair on my part.
